1. Patch test: apply a small amount to the inner forearm and leave for 24 hours before first full use.
2. Apply to clean, dry, intact skin — never over cuts, rashes or sunburn.
3. Use a pea-sized amount and massage it in fully rather than layering it on thickly.
4. Wash your hands immediately afterwards, especially before touching your face or handling contact lenses.
5. Don't cover the area with a tight bandage, heat pack or hot water bottle, which intensifies the warming effect.

If the warmth feels too strong

Wash the area with soap and cool — not hot — water, then pat dry. Hot water reactivates the sensation rather than relieving it. A small amount of plain vegetable oil on a cloth lifts residual capsaicin better than water alone.

The sensation fades on its own within a couple of hours in almost every case. Next time, use half as much and expect your skin to tolerate it better after a few applications.

How to apply Arthryon to the painful joint

Technique matters more than quantity. Warming creams work through the skin over the joint, so the goal is thin, well-massaged coverage of the skin over the joint rather than a thick layer sitting on the surface.

1. Wash and dry the skin over the joint. Clean, dry skin absorbs the cream evenly; lotion or sweat already on the skin slows it down.
2. Take A pea-sized amount — roughly the size of a large pea per area — onto your fingertips.
3. Massage it into the skin over the joint in slow circles for 30 to 60 seconds, until nothing is left sitting on the surface.
4. Wash your hands straight away, unless your hands are the area you are treating — in that case rinse only your palms and keep the cream on the joints.
5. Wait five to ten minutes before dressing so the warmth can build and clothing doesn't wipe the cream away.
6. Repeat up to three or four times a day, and no more than that in 24 hours.

Do not use a heating pad, tight bandage or hot bath over the area — combining external heat with a warming cream is the most common cause of skin irritation.
